Equity Checking® -- The Basis of Our Work Drawn from Equity Checking: Managing Assumptions to Achieve Organizational Success, by Dr. Mary Stewart-Pellegrini and Gary S. Topchik, the Equity Checking® skill has been taught to more than 4,000 participants across the country in SMG seminars. The results of Equity Checking® are easily quantified -- employees who are valued, respected and given input into decisions, with whom expectations are shared and goals are fairly rewarded, are more productive. When employees are productive, the company benefits. We teach employees a four-step process to Equity Checking®. The process demonstrates how to minimize the effects of assumptions and biases on relationships. The Equity Checking® evaluation segment and our time-tested follow up exercises guide employees to ways they can work together more effectively. Throughout the training session, we help participants to learn how their assumptions are triggered by the behaviors, actions or characteristics of individuals, events or situations and how those impact performance. Because the life experiences which drive assumptions are often unexamined by the individual, Equity Checking® is anchored in exploring deep-rooted values and beliefs. The objective of the skill is to teach people to differentiate between facts and perceptions.
